DETROIT, March 25, 2015D MET Architecture Studio was recently awarded first place in the commercial office interior category of the 2015 Detroit Home Design Awards. Presented by Detroit Home Magazine, the award recognized D MET’s interior design work for the MCCI (Mort Crim Communications, Inc.) headquarters, located in downtown Detroit’s historic Murphy-Telegraph building.

According to Detroit Home Magazine, the MCCI office integrates both classic and forward-thinking design elements, creating an environment that fosters creativity.

“This space unites stylistic elements appropriate to a classic, mid-century media company with a forward-thinking creative studio,” said Detroit Home Magazine in its description of D MET’s work. “The ‘creative studio’ is a nearly all-white, other-worldly space full of desks, informal meeting areas, two ‘phone booths,’ a conference room, and a visitor’s/employee lounge. Neatly tucked within the building’s poche are three editing suites, a recording booth, and a photo studio.”

mcci-office-detroit-enterenceMCCI President and CEO Terry Oprea relocated the company to its current Detroit headquarters in May 2014.

“We’d like to congratulate D MET founders Joel Schmidt and Elizabeth Skrisson on winning this prestigious award,” said Oprea. “The process of working with them as they developed a workspace that fit our company’s culture was an experience we truly enjoyed. D MET was able to capture the creative essence of our firm, and we couldn’t be happier with the final product.”

In addition to the features highlighted by Detroit Home Magazine, the MCCI office incorporates several other design elements that reflect its Southeast Michigan roots, including:

  • Re-planed wood flooring from Reclaim Detroit that came from reconstructed Detroit materials
  • Artwork from University of Michigan design and architecture entrepreneur Anya Sirota
  • A custom walnut board room conference table designed and created by Detroit’s Ali Sandifer Studio; and
  • A table in the kitchen area, custom-created by Alan Kaniarz of A.K. Services
  • Hosted by HGTV’s Nicole Curtis, the Detroit Home Design Awards were presented at The Fillmore in downtown Detroit. More than 600 design professionals and media were in attendance as D MET and other award recipients were honored.
