This week we are recognizing MCCI’s very own Web Developer/Designer, Garrett Ekstrom! After spending nearly 15 years in the field of culinary arts, Garrett’s passion for technology and design drove him to work in Web development. His creativity coupled with his expertise in Web coding allows MCCI to offer the most technologically advanced and relevant Web pages out there. Read what Garrett has to say about MCCI below!
What do you love about MCCI?
Everyone at MCCI is fun to work with, there are no bad attitudes. Everyone works hard but we have fun while we do it. There is a lot of collaboration among the teams (web, PR, video, etc.) which is great for the client (we can provide a lot in-house) AND it’s a great way to work together/get to know one another’s skill sets.
Explain your role as a part of the MCCI family?
I’m the tech guy, but my official title is Web Developer/Designer. If someone has a question about anything that deals with technology I’m the guy! I design and/or maintain many of our clients’ websites which involves anything (or everything) from designing, coding, implementing plugins, customizing and/or completing backups. I’ve done some particularly interesting things along the way such as making the Leader Dogs for the Blind website low-vision friendly, utilizing alt tags and other tools.
What’s the most challenging part of your job? Most rewarding?
I’m always doing/learning new things which can be challenging at first, but once I ‘crack the code’ learning those new things becomes a very rewarding part of my job. Additionally, I work with a ton of super talented people which is always rewarding!
How do you spend your time outside of the office?
I spend my time with my family (I’m married and we have one beautiful daughter – and three crazy cats). Activities I enjoy include hiking, camping, playing music, brewing beer, cooking and working on my house (there’s always some project I’m working on).
If you could be any Star Wars character, which one would you be and why?
Obi Wan Kenobi, he’s a badass, but he doesn’t flaunt it (AND he has an awesome beard).
