This week we are recognizing Calvin Schenck, one of our exceptional Videographer/Editors. Aside from his outstanding video skills such as his excellent animation technique, Calvin is a personable and sincere member of the MCCI video team. He acts as a mentor to all new team members and has traveled across the country to shoot in different locations. Read what Calvin has to say about MCCI below!
What do you love about MCCI?
I love our location downtown, our collaborative workspace and our popcorn machine. Above all, the people here are great. I can't think of anyone at MCCI with whom I don't have a fantastic working relationship... And that is an encouraging thing to experience in the workplace.
Explain your role as a part of the MCCI family.
I'm part of the video team at MCCI, which means that most of my time is spent shooting, editing and creating motion graphics for our various projects. I interact with our own producers as well as clients on a daily basis to develop a diverse range of content. Whether I'm traveling across the country or working right here in our Detroit headquarters, I always see my role as providing video production excellence.
What’s the most challenging part of your job? Most rewarding?
The most challenging part of my job is adapting with the industry and keeping my work stylistically inventive. Video trends change quickly. It can be easy to get complacent and edit a video the same way I edited one last week. Ultimately, putting in the extra effort to keep each project fresh helps me develop both my technical skill and artistic sensibility. The most rewarding aspect of my job is receiving positive feedback for my work. There's nothing like seeing a client get excited about a finished product.
How do you spend your time outside the office?
Reading, playing music, woodworking and cycling are a handful of the activities I enjoy outside of the office. I try to spend as much time as I can with my family and friends, and usually prefer the outdoors to staying inside.
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
The one item you will ALWAYS find in my refrigerator is Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice. It's been my favorite beverage since childhood and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. In the freezer, you'll find my lightsaber popsicles.
